Congratulations and Thank You to all those who participated in the Jimbo’s Squad Broad Street Run festivities!

The celebration kicked off on Friday evening with the 6th Annual Bulldog Bash at Paddy Whacks. It was a night filled with family, friends, great music and good times! The program was highlighted by remarks made by John St Omer, a new Jimbos Squad member and 1st time Broad Street Run participant and by Jim Marino, the Director of the Broad Street Run. John began his remarks by telling the group,  “I just celebrated my 50th birthday and soon will be a grandfather for the 1st time.” What more exciting words can a Cancer Survivor say!  Auction winners walked away from the event with tickets to the US Open Championship and Phillies games, gift certificates for spa treatments, local restaurants and gym memberships, jewelry items and more! The program concluded with the annual presentation of the ” Run with Jimbo” award to Jim’s brother, Uncle Mike (Mike McDonald) for his unwavering support of all of the Squad’s efforts and his commitment to keeping Jimbo’s spirit alive each day!


Sunday morning brought with it an absolutely perfect day for running as more than 200 Jimbo’s Squad troops took their places at the starting line and at Mile 9 (Broad and Pattison Avenues). Brian McShane led our runners carrying a Jimbo’s Squad flag signed with well wishes from patients and medical staff at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Sporting Squad Tee-shirts, red socks and huge grins, our members joined the 40,000 plus Broad Street Run participants for the race through Philadelphia. Miler 9ers once again showed their team spirit with their air horns and high fives and with their encouraging cheers, not only for Jimbo’s Squad members but in support of all those tackling Broad Street. After the race, Troops toasted  together in celebration of a great day!


Our sincere appreciation to all those who supported the Squad this weekend! It was an overwhelming success, raising more than $25,000 in support of the patients at Fox Chase Cancer Center, and reminding us what we can accomplish when we band together in support of a great cause and in proud celebration of our good friend Jim!

All runners are asked to ensure that they donated or raised at least $30 in order to receive their Jimbo’s Squad running shirt and bib pick up if you selected it. All other donations of $30 or more also receive a Jimbo’s Squad t-shirt, which can be picked up at our Bull Dog Bash or by the runner you are supporting.

6TH ANNUAL BULLDOG BASH – Friday, May 3rd at 7pm at Paddy Whacks South

Join us for a great night to mix and mingle with fellow Squad members, win unique Chinese Auction items and pick up your t-shirts and running bib if racing. Cost per person is $25 and includes buffet, open bar and live music, featuring 3HT. This year’s Auction features terrific packages including; Phillies tickets, a Flat Screen TV, passes to the Philadelphia Zoo and much more!

JIMBO’S SQUAD BATTLE BAG

One of our own was recently diagnosed with Cancer. She is only 4 years old and will need to undergo several months of grueling treatment. We are filling a “Battle Bag”, with comfort items, to help support her through her courageous fight. The bag will be at the Bulldog Bash, so feel free to drop in any item that you think may help.

Jimbo’s Squad Shirt and Bib Pick Up

Runners, please review the list [AVAILABLE HERE] to ensure that your name is on our runners’ list along with your shirt size and if you would like Jimbo’s Squad to pick up your race packet for you. We need this information by Wednesday at 5pm to ensure we have an accurate list for bib pick up. Please reply to this email today with you information. Please also note that if you requested us to pick up your packet for you, you must pick it up at Friday’s Bash, as it will no longer be available at the BSR expo.

If you are not picking up your packet at the Bull Dog Bash, please let us know how we can make sure you have your Jimbo’s Squad shirt for the race. We can drop off your shirt at FCCC or give them to another Squad member for pick up on Friday.

“RED SOX” TO SUPPORT BOSTON

In light of the recent, tragic events in Boston, many runners taking on Broad Street this year, including Jimbo’s Squad troops, will be wearing red socks to show their support for those impacted. Please feel free to show your support by running in your own red socks!
MILE 9ers

Our runners need YOU! Over the years, our enormous group of run supporters have taken over mile 9 of the BSR. We have named this dedicated group the Mile 9ers! We encourage anyone available on May 5th to come out to the northeast corner of the intersection at Broad and Pattison Avenues, to show your Jimbo’s Squad spirit. Make sure you wear your Mile 9er shirts and be ready to make some noise!

Broad Street Countdown!

The Countdown is On!
In just 21 days, more than 30,000 runners will lace up their sneakers and tackle Broad Street! We are looking forward to celebrating this special event with all our Jimbo’s Squad members. Please see below for some important information about race weekend:

6th Annual Bulldog Bash – The pre-race party will be held on Friday, May 3rd at 7pm at Paddy Whacks South Street. Please note-in previous years, this event was held on the Saturday before the race but has been moved to Friday this year. Cost per person is $25 and includes buffet, open bar and live music. It’s a  great night to mix and mingle with fellow Squad members, win unique Chinese Auction items and pick up your running bib if racing. All proceeds benefit Jimbo’s Squad!

Race Spots Still Available for Jimbo’s Squad Runners – If you or someone you know was planning to run with the Squad BUT did not get into the Broad Street Run through the lottery, Jimbo’s Squad can STILL help interested runners gain race entry. Email jimbossquad@gmail.com for more information.

Post-Race Party at Victory Beer Hall in XFINITY Live! Philadelphia– This year’s post-race party will be held just steps away from the 9miler post on Pattison Avenue. Join runners and supporters immediately following the race to toast a great day! Drink and food specials will be available. Victory will generously make a donation to Jimbo’s Squad for every member who attends so make sure you mention the Squad when you arrive. Many thanks to Victory for their generous support!  (Children of all ages are welcome!).

Annual Paddy Whack’s Dash a Success!
Many thanks to those runners/walkers, supporters and volunteers who braved the snow and came out for the Paddy Whack’s St. Patrick’s Day Dash on March 16th. The race raised over $700 in support of Jimbo’s Squad. It was a day filled with great music, food, drinks and community spirit and we send a very special Thank You to Paddy Whack’s for their commitment to our mission!

As entry to the 2013 Broad Street Run has now been announced, Jimbo’s Squad is ready to run!

*Runners – If you received entry to the race through the lottery, with your $30 contribution to Jimbo’s Squad you will receive a team running shirt and invites to all the Squad’s events both leading up to the Broad Street Run and throughout the year. By making your gift through the group’s Fundly site (http://fundly.com/jimbo-s-squad-broad-street-run), you ensure Jimbo’s Squad has an accurate listing of all runners and you have the opportunity to help raise additional funds for the fight against Cancer. Consider forwarding your Fundly page to family and friends who may want to support you as you prepare for and tackle the 10 miles down Broad Street!

Mark your calendars for the first training run of the season – Paddy Whacks St. Patrick’s Day Dash A 5K Charity Fun Run on Saturday, March 16th. It will be a great way to dust of those running shoes after the winter and get back in gear! All proceeds benefit Jimbo’s Squad. More information to follow.

Jimbo Squad Kicks Off 2013!

Happy New Year! As we begin 2013, the mission of Jimbo’s Squad remains the same – to provide comfort for patients at the Fox Chase Cancer Center and their families as they battle Cancer. In order to fulfill our mission, the Squad will host several events throughout the year, highlighted once again by participation in the 2013 Philadelphia Broad Street Run. We encourage you to check our website often for updates on events, registration for the Broad Street Run and how you can help the Squad accomplish its goals this year.

Jimbo’s Squad’s first assignment this year – the 2013 Kick Off Party! Join fellow Troops, family and friends on Saturday, February 23rd at Slainte Pub & Grill (3000 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104) for a casual night of cocktails and camaraderie. Jimbo’s Squad President, Brian McShane will represent the Squad behind the bar! Doors open at 8pm and the cost per person is $10, which includes appetizers and drink specials. All proceeds benefit Jimbo’s Squad.

Following the kick off, Jimbo’s Squad will turn its focus to the Broad Street Run. Hundreds of troops are currently lacing up their sneakers to begin training for the 10 mile trip down Broad Street. This year, Broad Street Run organizers have changed the registration process to a lottery system. As this may prevent some runners from official entry through the lottery, you will have the opportunity to register for the race as a member of Jimbo’s Squad.
